Ex-Arsenal winger Robert Pires is mostly remembered for being part of the famous Arsenal Invincible squad in 2003/04.
The fleet-footed Frenchman was also part of the France team that won the World Cup in 1998.
But a little known statistic around Bobby P is his love for consistency and repetition. Did you know;
- Whilst playing for Ligue 1 side Metz, Pires scored exactly 11 goals in seasons 95/96, 96/97 and 97/97
- When turning out for Arsene Wenger’s mighty Gunners, he scored exactly 14 goals in season 02/03, 03/04 and 05/06. (He also scored exactly 14 goals for the French national side)
- In the twilight years of his career at La Liga side Villarreal, he scored precisely 3 goals in seasons 07/08, 08/09 and 09/10.
It’s safe to say Pires is a huge fan of scoring patterns, evidenced by his tendency to repeat his goalscoring antics for a minimum of three seasons in a row.
On a slightly separate note, can we all take some time to appreciate just how good an achievement of 14 Premier League goals from the left side of a midfield four is? To achieve that not once, not twice, but three times is amazing. Especially when you consider back then tackles were a lot harder and the referees were a lot more, let’s say… lenient.
