Raphael Varane, a World Cup winner with France, has been linked with a potential £25M move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman formed a solid partnership at the back with Lisandro Martinez last season under Erik ten Hag, but so far this campaign has been overlooked by his manager.

This has promoted reports that Varane may be unsettled in Manchester, and could be on the lookout for a transfer in the near future.

However, in an interview with GQ France, the 30-year-old moved quickly to squash rumours of a possible switch to Germany.

“I will finish my career either in Madrid, or in Manchester, or in Lens. I will not move to another club” said Varane.

“But Madrid seems complicated to me. Players don’t usually go back there. The most likely outcome today is that I will finish [my club career] in either Manchester or Lens.”

After joining Manchester United in 2021, Varane arrived with a huge reputation and hit the ground running. He put in a number of top class displays and played a key role in Man Utd winning the Carabao Cup earlier this year.

Such was his impact at the club, it has left many confused as to why he has been left out of the starting lineup when fit, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof being selected ahead of him.

Ten Hag has insisted his exclusion is simply for tactical reasons, stating “It is about tactical reasons why I chose these partnerships. I think Harry and Jonny did well.

What I said last year, Harry didn’t play a lot, so I was very happy with Rapha’s performances. I have always been happy with his performance.

“But in this moment, Harry is playing very well and there is internal competition.”
